Risk assessment and safety surveys
What is a “risk” in the workplace? If you are not confident about how to assess risks in your workplace, it makes sense to seek outside help.
Risk assessment is the first step to effectively managing your company’s health and safety.
All businesses have a duty under health and safety law to carry out risk assessments. The law also requires that companies with five or more people have to document the significant findings of their assessment, and plan to ensure that no one in the firm gets hurt or becomes ill.
At A.I.Safety Management Ltd. we help you to identify the particular risks in your workplace and advise you on the best way to manage these risks so you comply with the health and safety law.
Following your risk assessment we provided a fully documented detailed report for you to action.
Advice on legislation and best practice
It is not always obvious which regulations apply to you and which don’t.
Some provisions are likely to affect firms with common risks. These include:
- First Aid at Work 1981
- Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 (amended 2002)
- Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 (amended 2006)
- Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992
- Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992
- Workplace Health, Safety and Welfare Regulations 1992
- Work with Display Screen Equipment 1992 as amended by the Health and Safety (Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 2002
- Fire Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
But there are a host of other regulations - some reflecting the requirements of the European Community directives - which may be particular to your company’s business, and which you may not know about. We help you identify all the legislation and advise you on best practice.
Incident investigation
To effectively investigate an incident you need to find its root cause. This is often difficult to find in larger organisations where staff do not have the full picture of what goes on inside the organisation.
This is where we help. We offer an objective view of the situation.
We define any deep-seated problems you have in your organisation and we give you practical recommendations to ensure all steps are taken to prevent repeat incidents.
We provide full and thorough reporting – in the format you request - on all incidents you ask us to investigate.
Advice and compilation of Health and Safety Policy Statements
These are essential documents you will use for a long to come. We advise you on all the safety topics that every health and safety manual should contain. For example:
- Health and Safety policy statement
- Education and training information
- Everyday responsibilities
- First aid
- Inspection responsibilities
- New employee programmes
Management system integration and delivery
The success of your policy ultimately depends on your company putting it into practice effectively. We help you set up the organisational structure for your health and safety programme.
This includes management responsibilities, the consultation processes, training programmes, and importantly, a system of active and reactive monitoring of the management system.
Developing a sound integrated management system improves a company’s overall health and safety performance and profile through better management, ongoing evaluation and enhancements.
And by introducing a company-wide health and safety policy you convert good health and safety practice into good business practice, resulting in better service to customers, regulators and the public.
Health and Safety training
Health and safety law says that employees must be trained and clearly instructed in their duties. We advise you on the type of training you will need to provide, and we help you set it up.
This might include hazard identification skills; the proper use of protective clothing and equipment; manual handling techniques; duties, rights and responsibilities of both employer and employee in the workplace.
In addition, for those wishing to improve general health and safety in their organisation we help you:
- Implement schedules for active monitoring and analysing records
- Health and Safety legislation / Codes of Practice
- Active monitoring (Inspections, Checks and Audits)
- Procedures and techniques used in management reviews
- Accident and incident investigation
We also help companies wishing to raise awareness of Health and Safety legislation amongst their executives and key managers. Of particular importance relevance here are:
- The legal framework
- Statutory / common Law
- Risk assessment
- Health and Safety management
- The root causes of accidents
- Requirements and potential penalties
- Financial implications
